- Benzonatate 100–200 mg PO TID–QID – Dry/irritating cough – MOA: anesthetizes airway stretch receptors – Form: soft gelatin capsules – Brand: Tessalon Perles

- Guaifenesin 200–400 mg PO q4h PRN or 600–1200 mg ER q12h (max 2400 mg/day) – Productive cough, thick mucus, chest congestion, bronchitis with phlegm – MOA: decreases viscosity of respiratory secretions – Brands: Mucinex, Robitussin

- Codeine 30–60 mg PO QID – Severe dry cough; refractory cough – MOA: μ-opioid receptor agonist suppressing cough center in medulla – Form: syrup (most common) – Brands: Robitussin AC, Cheratussin AC
